Using inks for observational drawing

Above are two recent pages out of my sketchbook. This is an area of my grandparents garden that I really love. I used inks in order to experiment with interpretive brush markings. I then outlined key areas with a black brush pen very loosely. I think this gives the first painting above a very "lived in" appearance. I also chose to use gold shimmery watercolour as a way to add highlights and focal points in the pampas grass heads. This was really effective and I will use this method in future drawings.

Inks are something I really enjoy using as they are very fluid and mean that I don't get to focused on the details of an artwork, however if I wanted to add details this is also possible with inks as they are very layer-able.
