My Petcha Kutcha presentation - Siranna by NEOM
For my Petcha Kutcha I have chosen to focus on a recently revealed architectural project by NEOM, named Siranna. Situated on the Gulf of Aqaba coastline. This is a part of a broader Neom project, which seeks to create a sustainable city that redefines urban living by embracing technological advancements and marries this with sustainability and protecting the environment.
Siranna is a tourist destination that houses a 65 key hotel as well as 35 exclusive residence. It was designed to release visitors from their digital conscious, as the architect Woods Bagot felt this is a pressing issue in today’s society.
I chose this story as I am really inspired by the work NEOM Is doing, regardless of whether this site does end up being built I think just the proposal and the ingenuity is something that deserves recognition as there isn’t anyone else pushing for such futuristic and sustainable design in the current architecture and landscape architecture space.
One of the most significant trends in urban landscape architecture today is a strong emphasis on sustainability. Siranna ha reached their sustainability goal by integrating water management, renewable energy and eco-friendly construction techniques. Siranna was built to seamlessly integrate into the surrounding landscape and mimic the existing rock patterns and structure.
Another major trend is bringing nature back into the urban landscape. Siranna transforms what is currently an arid desert into a lush habitable ecosystem by designing with extensive green spaces, shaded walkways, horseback tours around the desert, etc. Siranna also aims to preserve the surrounding landscape.
To conclude, Siranna by NEOM is not just a futuristic design. It’s a glimpse into design of the future and where the landscape architecture space may be in decades to come. Through sustainable practices, smart technology and a commitment to ecological resilience it provides a framework for others to follow when designing for the urban landscape.
