Leaning trees, is this the future of planting?
Instead of removing all the soil from
an area and the planting a tree upright. This technique carefully removes the
top layer of grass, then the direction of optimal sunlight is analysed and the
tree is placed in this direction. This is done because trees naturally grow
towards their biggest light source in order to photosynthesise most
effectively. Once this angle had been worked out, the plant is placed in the
soil exactly to this angle. The carefully removed grass in then place on top of
the soil where the tree has been placed. This then leaves the tree to look like
it grew in that space from a seedling and that the natural landscape was never
disturbed.
Above is a diagram I have drawn of this process.
If the tree were to be planted using
traditional techniques the soil would be removed and placed to the side. The
tee would the be placed bolt upright and a mound of soil would be placed over
the roots of the tree. This creates a very unnatural look. It also means that
as the tree continues its growth it will start growing in another direction to
what it originally grew at. This can be very unaesthetically pleasing.
As seen in the diagram below.
